It is heart breaking hearing of the suffering of pets on this site, and the owners say, i cant afford to take the pet to the vet.|||Because they are too cheap and lazy to do the right thing! There is no excuse.
I too am tired of reading the whining at this site by persons who want "home remedies" and a cheap, quick fix rather than do the right thing. If one can afford a cell phone, a pizza, or new shoes, then one can afford an office visit. Many vets will arrange monthly payments. There are also many internet sites such as these:
www.carecredit.com or www.imom.org
There is no excuse for not providing proper care for a living being. Animal Control agrees for when authorized they will remove an animal from a home if it cannot provide proper care - as will Child Protective Services for a child!
It's just sheer thoughtlessness and laziness and excuse-making. There are many resources; more now than ever before. I've been unemployed before due to downsizing and always managed to care for all my animals I had at the time - with no second income as backup either or help from any family.|||because they really love pets|||I think some peploe get lonley and want a frind so they get an animal with out thinking of the cost or they like pets so the get one or they have an animal and then there finacl situation changes and they love it so they keep it|||I agree with you, I keep telling people that there is no difference between a pet and a baby both need to be taken care of loved and medical attention.
It bothers me that they think of pets as disposable creatures is very sad and I wonder if they would like it if someone treated then that way. AN EYE FOR AN EYE|||Hi
I think a lot of people are a bit naive when it comes to owning an animal. I don't think anyone intentionally gets a pet thinking they will never take care of it other than feeding it. I think that a lot of people, especially with cats, don't realize how much a vet bill can be. Dogs are a lot easier and cheaper to treat than cats, because dogs are closer related to humans in that they can have antibiotics that they give children, unfortunately they charge a whole lot more!!! Cats are very particular about the medication you can give them. Like you can give a dog aspirin for arthritis, but not a cat.
I think a lot of people end up in a situation that they can no longer afford to take the animal for regular check ups, from divorce or job loss, which it is very hard to afford a vet, when you are having a hard time just feeding it or yourself. And who is going to give up their best friend on the thought alone that they may need a vet someday....
I think a lot of people say they can't afford a vet, but when it comes down to it, most figure out a way. I think a lot of people just need affirmation too that they are doing the right thing by taking them to the vet, and not just jumping the gun and spending money they don't really have on something that may be fixed at home. I have seen a few of those questions on here.....|||People have an inborn requirement for love through the animal world. Every one needs and should (to be a complete human being) own an animal.
This world dose not prepare persons to be responsible for and carry through on their comittments.
A person who comes to a station such as this and asks for in-put on how to care for the animals health needs should be encouraged. Learning all there is to know about your animal freind and how to care for its health and well being , is your self is a prime responsibility.
The vet should be the last recourse after you have exhausted your mind, heart, and enery, to care for it yourself.
Most of us who are life long animal husbanders can give you so much info on health care outside the vet ,that it would be rediculouse not to ask!
Most of us also know when to tell you to take it to the vet and will not hesitate to do so,
Find a "farm vet" and develoup a working relationship with him. Many will answere questions by phone, if you sound like you know what you are doing. Also they understand the fact that the animal is not a child and has a limit is to be set on expense. Also the "farm" rather than "pet" vet generaly is much more versed in alternative and exceptional effort proceedures.
Pet vets have been cought up with the ideah that they can charge as much as you would pay for a child and get away with it. They use emptional manipulation to gain money, and generaly do unnessesary proceedures, over vaccinate to the detriment of your animals long term life, and through a lot of hokey stories, convince you to protect from things your animal will never encounter. the more you know the more you will be able to care for your animal partner responsibly.|||I visited the French Quarters in New Orleans about 20 years ago. There you could see all kinds of homeless sleeping on the public benches, with their dogs. Pets are so VERY unconditional in their love of their master, and provide comffort, and security, when they don't have anyone or anything to do it for them otherwise.|||The question should be why does it cost so much to take an animal to the vet. Some people just get counght between a rock and a hard spot with their pet.|||They weren't thinking when they bought it. They probably got it when it was really young and cute, so it was an impulse buy. Unfortunately, the pet has to deal with the owners not being able to take them for check-ups. If you love your pet you should take care of it no matter what.|||Because people think "Oh I'll be able to take care of it"
A few months later: "Omg I can't take care of it, so I'll just leave it be"
OR
"I don't have time for this, I'll take care of it later"...And they never do.
OR
"Well I don't have the money so who cares, It'll be fine".
Or the well known...
"Well you were bad so you don't deserve to be treated with my respect".
Thus animal neglect/abuse is started.
It's so heartbreaken that people can be so unresponsible/immature/careless/disrespe鈥?about something that doesn't know any better.|||They are cheap %26amp; don't really pay attention to them. They like the thought of owning a pet, but don't know how to budget for them. It is sad. I love cats %26amp; birds, %26amp; have 2 birds %26amp; usually 1 cat. That is all I can afford to take care of, time %26amp; money wise. At least I know that much!
