Is it possible to bring pets you brought overseas into America? What procedures do you have to take?

In Japan, many summer festivals offer games in which you try to catch little animals such as turtles, gold fish, and sometimes even baby chicks to take home as pets. My question is, if you're visiting Japan and manage to win a pet, is it possible to bring those them home? If so, what procedures do you have to take to do so?|||This should help you:

http://www.cdc.gov/animalimportation/Bri鈥?/a>|||Quarantine is a government-run process in which your animal is basically put in a shelter of types, and sits there for a few weeks to a few months, depending on the animal's type and the country it came from.

You can visit your pet if you like, but you cannot take it home until the quarantine is up. Workers there will feed and water the animal for you, and give it a bit of exercise.

For plane transportation, it all depends.

Some people worry that their pet won't be able to take the flight well, so they have a veterinarian sedate them prior to the journey. Usually the animals are put in the lower part of the plane, along with the baggage/luggage. Sometimes you can have a pet as carry on, but it is hard to reserve such a seat and the animal's crate and size must meet certain regulations.

Most countries do not quarantine pets coming from Australia, countries like Singapore if we look at countries close to Australia- Countries like Canada also do not quarantine pets as long as they have had all their shots and papers in order. Now if you were to take your pet to Malta YOU will be shocked to know that they do not allow pets to come into their tiny island country as its been rabies free from 1911! -However pets from the UK are given the Ok provided they are quarantined-I suggest you do not even ask what the quarantine conditions are like - ( this was a decades ago and I was not impressed)

Dogs and cats can be transported by air and they do not suffer too much trauma , however I suggest that you visit the website of any country to check about their rules and policies on importing pets-- Please be aware that now Major airlines are refusing to cargo pets on the same flight and some airlines have altogether refused pets -- Air Canada being one of them_ Shame to them.

Previously sedation was allowed but now the vets say different - My Vet was smarter and more sensible and my pooch of 10 years age was given sedation to keep it calm for a 22 hour trip! She was right as rain . You have to have a rather large pet kennel, and something your pet likes , mine had a piece of my clothing!

Sorry I cannot answer about birds and what the situation can be with the bird Flu etc
