What happens to the pets of a person living alone who is taken to hospital?

If there are no family or friends in the area to assume responsibility of them?

By pets I mean dogs, cats etc, not just fish/hutched animals.|||Unless the pet owner made arrangements for the animals they would be abandoned and recovered by animal control. They would be adopted out or euthanized, no one would board the animals for free.

Anyone can make arrangements with their vet to board in case of emergency and have their pet wear that on their collar. My dogs have the vets number on them, who is authorized to treat them or recover them if I can not be reached. You can have that data on their microchip too, all dogs and cats that are picked up are always scanned.|||In most cases an animal shelter or temporary caging facility would be used. I suppose some relatives who're willing to care for them would take them in.

The second option of course won't apply if the person is antisocial and pushes away all relatives.

Hope this helps :)|||Hopefully everyone who lives alone and has pets will have some kind of support system should something like this happen so that their beloved pets will be taken care of.|||I think that the RSPCA would take them or they could be taken to a dogs/cats home.|||Eventually they end up with the ASPCA or coounty animal control in most cases
