How do you keep unwanted neighborhood pets out of your yard in a safe way?

We just moved into a beautiful home and unfortunately our neighbor has about a half dozen cats and they seem to like our front yard as a litter box. (yuck!) We have three small children and no pets so having to pick up after someone elses pets is not cool at all. Plus it's unsanitary! What can use that is eco-friendly and safe. Thank you and all answers are welcomed!|||Well, let's see. A yard is tricky since it's such a large area. I normally sprinkle raw, fresh pepper over the areas I don't want any of my four cats (all indoor babies) getting into. They really don't appreciate the sneezing attacks that ensue.

I don't approve of all the options listed in this site, but it has some good suggestions that are eco-friendly.

However, I was able to stop them from using my flowers beds at my front door for a litter box by turning on the water sprinkler. Cats don't like getting sprinkled with water. There are some commercial products you can buy. But its costly and I don't know how well it will work. You might check with your local seed %26amp; feed co-op.|||Buy a dog and install one of those invisible dog fences....here kitty kitty!
